Arjun needs to keep his new look for Ra.1 out of the public eye. He’s now taking off for a month-long vacation away from prying eyes.
It’s been a stressful time for Arjun Rampal. While waiting for the verdict on his latest film Raajneeti, he was also trying to hide his look for Anubhav Sinha’s Ra.1.
Groans Arjun, “It isn’t easy wearing a cap in this heat. But while promoting Raajneeti I had to make sure my Ra.1 look doesn’t get revealed. Both Shah Rukh and I have a particular look for the film. And I guess we both need to keep it hidden from the public.”
It isn’t surprising to know Arjun’s two daughters are his biggest fans and that his wife, Meher, thinks he has given his career’s best performance in Raajneeti.
Chuckles Arjun, “My daughters found Raajneeti a little too intense for their liking. When they’re a little older I hope to sit and watch it with them. In fact, my whole endeavour is to create a body of work that my wife and kids can be proud of.”
And now Arjun is off on a month long holiday with the three girls in his life. “It’s an annual ritual. We always take a vacation during thedaughters’ summer vacation. We’re leaving for London on 20 June. From there we’re heading for Greece. Just the four of us.”
Arjun leaves accompanied by a whole lot of critical acclaim for Raajneeti. “I guess the National Award for Rock On gave me the confidence to face the camera with all the National Award winners in Raajneeti. The feedback for Raajneeti is tremendous. It’s important for me to pick parts that take me beyond Rock On and Raajneeti. Since unconventional films are being accepted, why do hackneyed or clicked roles?”

Shruti Seth has come out of her closet that of a girl-next-door with the film Raajneeti, in the role of a woman party worker. Her bold scenes opposite Arjun Rampal in the film for sure made critics talk about her. The girl who started her career with modeling strongly believes that this has just been the stepping stone in her life.
In an interview, the actress candidly spoke about the reaction of the people around her, after the release of the film.
How has been the response for your bold role in Raajneeti?
Overwhelming, I had never expected that such a small character will stand out when there are so many top-line stars in the film. I must say, it was Prakashji’s intention to surprise the audience. After watching the film, my fans have tried reaching me through mails, Facebook page and other networking sites to comment on my work. This has happened for the first time in my career spanning 10years.
How did Prakash Jha convince you to do this role?
Worst thing about this industry is that we work for a character and not as an actor. But after listening to Prakashji I agree with him that one should keep shocking their audience so as to get noticed by them, otherwise if you keep doing same kind of roles you get lost in the crowd. Had I been playing some abla naari kind of character in the film, I don’t think anyone would have noticed me, as it has always been in the subliminal thought process of the audiences, that I would play some girl-next-door kind of role. But, when I shock them by doing something what is not expected of me, it rings the bell. So, everytime an actor should do something different from what they have done previously.
How did your parents react?
My parents knew about my role in Raajneeti, without informing them I would not have done the film. My mother is proud of me, as she believes with this film I have proved my mettle as an actress. Like others my friends were also in state of shock and I had to explain them that if I play a role of thief, I don’t become one.
What was the best compliment you received?
It was when Prakashji called me his bravest actor. I had lot of apprehensions doing the role initially that I went upto him and told, if anything goes wrong I will have to do lot of damage console. To which he answered explaining me that either you be an actor or you pretend to be an actor and play all the safe roles. He further explained that if you do not re-invent the actor in you, people will forget you. I got to see the film during premiers only. Trust me, I was not getting sleep for several nights, until the film released. All the time, I would only think of, is there anything gone wrong about which I can’t do anything now, but the other day when I read reviews in newspapers, I was happy to read the special mention of my role.
She goes on…
The upcoming director Vinay Shukla, who will be debuting this year, SMSed me saying that had there been any lesser actor in this role, would have caricatured and ruined the character. This film certainly is a biggest pay of my career.
What kind of apprehension you are talking about?
I was scared of press, audience and film critics. It was a role about which people could have easily written that there was no need for such a character in the film, but I am glad that they appreciated me.
How did Arjun Rampal comfort you with the scene?
With all due respect to veterans, I would say that the new generation actors are more professional. They have no inhibitions about doing any kind of scenes, as they all look forward to make a good quality film. This does not mean it was easy for us to give such a shot on camera but I must say it was Prakashji who made us all give our best.
So, what kind of roles would you like to do hence?
I kind of gauge role before taking up in terms of what difference the role that I am offered would bring to the storyline of the film, if it is removed. If the story of the film changes with the removal of that one character I accept the role, irrespective of the length, the film and the kind of scenes it requires.
So would you continue with TV…
I will continue doing everything what I have been doing so far, right from modeling to hosting, to serial, to films. Television makes you bloody rich but the shooting schedule are so hectic that even if you are dying, they will shoot you from your grave. Owing to which even film producers hesitate to approach TV-actors to avoid date problems. That’s why many talented actors of television lose on good works in films.
Coming back to TV, your show Rishta.com is coming to an end, as it could not garner TRP.
I am very upset. I would not blame the concept of the serial or the audience but the marketing team of the show. They did not promote the show well and it could not reach to the audience we were targeting on. Also, the time slot was ridiculous. When our Indian audience is use to going out on weekends what is the point in having the show’s airtime at 8’oclock on Sundays and also when on week-days people hit the bed early, as they have to rush for work the next morning, how can you gather audience for the show airing at 11’oclock on week-days. Still, I maintain that this is the best show I have ever done on TV. People abroad liked the show very much but what is the use when our Indian audience for whom we had brought this show did not watch it. Rejection is last thing when talking of this show as people were not even made aware of it.
What’s in pipeline?
I am doing a film called ‘My Friend Pinto’ which is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s production. The film also stars Kalki Koechlin and Prateik Babbar. The film has many sub-plots, and is directed by Raghav Dar.
Which are the five high-points in your career?
Sharaarat - It was popular among the kiddos so much that they would expect me to do magic by snapping fingers.
Channel V - I always wanted to be a Veejay, I don’t know why. So becoming one was somthing that I had asked for and I was granted.
Comedy Circus – People would generally address me as Jiya from Sharaarat but after this show they got to know me by my real name.
Rishta.com – The show is written and directed my brother, apart from that it was also special to me as it is the superior quality show ever aired on Indian channel.
Raajneeti – With this film I have broke the big mould around me as an actor. I had actually challenged myself by accepting and doing this role.

Actress Shruti Seth, who has also featured in films like Fanaa, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, is all set to tie the knot this year with debutant director Danish Aslam.The two have been dating since the last 4 years and finally decided to get married when Danish proposed to Shruti on her birthday last December.
Danish, as he's known by now, is currently directing his first film Break Ke Baad starring Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone for Kunal Kohli Productions.

Shruti Seth is an example of how an actor metamorphosed into an anchor and established herself in the industry.
Be it Comedy Circus or the new show, Bollywood Club, on Zoom, Shruti has been successful in making a career out of compering shows on television. And she has been praised from people all over the country for her balanced act.
Shruti and Shakeel made quite a whacky pair in hosting Comedy Circus and would often send the audience into peels of laughter.
"The first season of Comedy Circus was better in terms of the participants," Shruti tell us. "This is not to demean the contestants of this season, but I feel there is a lot of stress on the script and packaging aspects of the show this time."
"Shakeel used to tease me about my dresses and since it was all in good humour, I enjoyed it," says Shruti. "I am a big fan of designer duo Gauri and Nayanika. But in my shows, I have mostly wore creations from Satya Paul and Bollywood Mischief."
Shruti's other show, Bollywood Club -- Kismat Ka Konnection, is about all that happens behind the scenes -- the frustration, grit and, above all, the desire to make it big in Bollywood.
However, she has not been signed on to host Kaate Ki Takkar made by the producers of the same show. Purbi Joshi will do the honours there.
Shruti is unperturbed by this. "You have to accept the fact that these are different shows so there is no reason why they would want me to continue," she said.
"There is no particular winner in this show. Everyone is a winner and will get the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of big names like Subhash Ghai , Harry Baweja, Anees Bazmee and Vikram Bhatt ," she says. "The participants, through their performance, will get an opportunity to convince the directors to give them work."
Shruti is very selective while selecting her shows. "Shararat was on air for a marathon time. In fact, for such a long time that people still relate me with that show. Even with reality shows, I will participate only if I am convinced that it will have an impact on my career."
She gets emotional while talking about her own struggling days. "I am very lucky and grateful to God that I have achieved this much professionally until now. When I see contestants of reality shows struggling so much for a break, I realise how lucky I was."

I love watching new films, especially in the same weekend of their release. But because of my work pattern, I can't really do that too often.When there isn't enough time to go see a film, I substitute it by watching some American television shows like Friends on TV. Some of these shows are so well-made that you can't stop replaying them. But when I'm on the shoots, watching television is almost impossible and so I read books. I am a voracious reader and like reading philosophical books. My favourite author is James Clavel. I am currently reading Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol.
Whenever possible, I watch films with my friends, as it is a great stress buster for me. I like to watch films in theatres as they provide the right ambience that you need to enjoy a film. The last film I enjoyed was My Sister's Keeper.

The final 10 contestants will be judged on their looks, personality, driving skills and overall attitude to emerge as a real stunner. Friendship and togetherness will be key to win this competition. The winner of the program will get a chance to host his own show on Bindass.

My success mantra: I strongly believe in "Ask and you shall receive."
I believe that if you want something bad enough the whole universe conspires to make it happen for you.
At work: You need to give it your 100 per cent and be sincere. You have to maintain a professional attitude and be the best at what you do. You can't afford to slack off or take your position for granted because there is always someone waiting round the corner to replace you.
The balancing act: Well, I work more than I party for sure. I put in long hours at work and can only meet my friends late in the night. But in the entertainment industry where looking good is an occupational hazard you have to refrain from late nights (laughs). So yeah, I would like to meet up with my friends, party and socialise a lot more.
Off work: I like to unwind with a relaxing massage!
Money talk...
Spending v/s saving: Spending, any day! It definitely comes easier than saving. Back in the day, I was quite the spendthrift. I have to admit I was a little foolish with money but now I'm a lot more responsible.
Money wise: I can definitely boast of being financially prudent. I know exactly where my money is and I know how to make my money work for me!
My investment portfolio: I think everyone needs a good life insurance policy. I haven't been lucky with mutual funds because when I invested the markets crashed. I also buy a lot of jewellery and diamonds though they aren't good as investments.
I believe the best time to save for your retirement is when your career is in full swing.
My biggest splurge: It would have to be my 2 BHK apartment in Four Bungalows (Mumbai) that I bought about three years ago.
My uncle, who is my financial planner for the most part, insisted that I invest in some property and I really wasn't keen on it because repaying a loan is a huge responsibility but now I'm glad I did. I had given the flat out on rent earlier. I took it back only recently and furnished it. It's absolutely lovely.
A waste of money: Big, expensive cars. Bigger cars mean more fuel consumption. So if we're not careful, we could be heading for a major fuel crisis. I'm very environmentally conscious and I'm very happy with my Maruti Swift.
Well, all we can say is that Shruti knows exactly what she wants and has a mind of her own all right!

Happiness quotient
I’m a happy-go-lucky person and usually high on life! Music is an instant mood uplifter, it can really cheer me up on the rare occasions when I’m down. If I’m in an aggressive mood, I go in for a strenuous workout — it greatly elevates my mood. Having a fit body is also a confidence booster, it keeps me upbeat.
My idea of relaxation
Would be ideally on a beach bed in Goa, surrounded by scrumptious food, foot tapping music and reading a good book. But since that isn’t always possible, sleeping is a great substitute!
My workout regime
I try and make it a point to visit the gym at least five times a week where I alternate between cardio and weight training. I also do yoga occasionally since it’s great for strength and flexibility. Right now I’m focussing more on building lean muscles so I do a workout keeping that in mind. It’s very essential that one train under a qualified trainer who can monitor you constantly. I had trained in Tai Chi long time back but unfortunately I don’t get time to do it anymore.
Diet
I make it a point to eat regular home cooked food as much as I can. If I indulge, I workout a little extra. What I strictly avoid is oily and unhealthy food and when I eat out, I stick to meat that is grilled or well cooked or salad and soup. I also make sure that I drink a considerable amount of water daily — I keep sipping on it throughout the day. I truly believe that every person, no matter how fat, thin or busy should keep aside at least an hour daily for some sort of exercise because it gives us such great relief and is a fantastic endorphin release as well.

This time on the sets of Kaante Ki Takkar the host, Purbi Joshi got a big surprise. While the actress was rehearsing her lines, she suddenly heard a voice and turned back to see the host of Comedy Circus, Shruti Seth.
“It was a pleasure to have Shruti on the sets of Kaante Ki Takkar. We had lots of fun during the shoot,” says Purbi.
Shruti suddenly entered with a sharp loud voice stating that ‘Main tumhari naukari lene aa gayi hoon’. (I’m here to take your job). Instead of greeting everyone with the usual pleasantries of hi or a hello, Shruti was all geared up and more than willing to conquer the stage. Shruti was there to perform an act with Juhi Parmar where she was pulling Purbi’s leg.
“It was a very funny act performed by Juhi and Shruti. Later on even I joined them and was going crazy with the act. Archanaji was very excited to see three ladies performing a stand up comedy,” adds the host.
Though Purbi was happy to see Shruti and the two exchanged a warm hug, there was some real takkar between the two hosts!!!

Tell us something about Anubhav.
I am in the supporting cast of the film. The interesting thing about the cast is that we all -- Sanjay Suri, Gul Panag and myself – have been models previously. I can't reveal any more right now.
What's your role in the movie?
I play Sanjay's college friend in this movie.
How was your bonding with Sanjay Suri and Gul Panag on the sets?
Oh, it was a pleasure working with them. We had a good time on the floor. Every one was co-operative. It was a fantastic experience working with them.
Tell us something about the director Rajiv Nath.
He is a very disciplined man, getting everything done according to his plans. Absence of confusion on the sets made work easy. The kind of rapport he struck with us was outstanding. The best part is he puts you at ease while working.
How different is the film from Fanaa and Tara Rum Pum?
"Fanaa" and "Tara Rum Pum" were commercial movies, "Anubhav" is slightly off-beat. And yes, my character in the film is not short-lived, as it was in my previous two movies.
You have got into Bollywood, so will you be disappearing from television now?
No, not at all. I don't think I will ever disappear from television because I know that television has given me a lot. Also, I personally enjoy working in television.
You have been a model, actor, host and a VJ, which role did you enjoy the most?
None in particular, I like wearing many hats.
Out of all the serials you have done so far which one did you enjoy doing the most?
I have worked in five serials to date, and they all did good on air and I enjoyed doing all of them. But my favourite will be 'Shararat'. Working with Faridaji was so much fun.
You have managed to target audiences ranging from six-year-olds to grown-ups, how does it feel?
It feels immensely satisfying. I do feel proud that I cater to all generations.
What are your other projects in Bollywood?

While ‘Rishta.com’ is wrapping up, Shruti Seth is stepping into a new ‘rishta’ as she is all set to tie the knot later this year. In a chat, the actress talks about the changing phase of her life and her upcoming film ‘Raajneeti’.You are about to part ways with ‘Rishta.com’. How does it feel considering you’ve been attached to the show very closely?
Well, all I can say is that the last 26 episodes of the show are probably the best work I’ve done in my acting career. It’s sad that we are parting ways as the whole team has been working together for the last 10 months. The shooting is getting completed. Mine will get over first then it’s going to be Kavi Kiran’s portions. We all have got so used to seeing each other that it’s obliviously going to be quite difficult for us. At the same time we are happy that we have put a great show together and now it’s time to move ahead for better things. Also, a big thank you to Yash Raj for giving us such a big opportunity. I don’t think many actors get such an opportunity to act, especially on television.
We hear after the show gets over you will step into a new ‘rishta’ in real life as you are set to tie the knot?
It’s going to happen sometime end of this year. I’m very private about my personal life. I’m glad this year is going to be good for me not just for the exciting work opportunities but also because I’m tying the knot.
Will you continue acting after marriage?
Yes, absolutely.
Are you doing any other shows on television after ‘Rishta.com’?
Not at the moment. Post ‘Rishta’ I’m going to take a while to choose my next assignment. I would like to take a holiday. And then I’d like to get back to anchoring. It’s almost a year since I did that.
Any dream role?
I would like to do a negative role.
Tell us about your role in ‘Raajneeti’.
I have no liberty to talk about my character. All I can tell you is that it is an interesting character with grey shades.
Are you doing any more films?
Well, I’m in the process of signing a new film but I’ll give you the details once things are on paper.

Omi Vaidya, who grabbed attention with his role as Chatur in the Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapor starrer 3 Idiots will be appear in a television advertisement campaign for the first time in a series of three ads for the private sector IndusInd Bank.
The ads, which are meant to push the bank's various services such as mobile alerts, online payments and Ready2Use savings accounts kit, are set to go on air from February 26.
Vaidya will feature in ads with Shruti Seth, popular television actress who has acted in Comedy Circus and Rishtey.com.
The campaign will target potential customers from across age groups and genders. "The thought behind the campaign is to use subtle humour to highlight IndusInd Bank's world-class services like Mobile Alerts, Online Payments and Ready2Use Savings Account Kit, designed to make banking a hassle-free and pleasurable experience," it said.
They have been directed by Imtiaz Ali, who has helmed successful films like "Jab We Met" and "Love Aaj Kal".
"The ad campaign is aimed at tickling hearts (and minds) of viewers to establish the brand and its superior customer-centric services in humourous, fresh and heartfelt manner," a press release from the bank said.
"This ad campaign takes ahead our initiative to reposition IndusInd Bank as a young, energetic and responsive brand," Mr Romesh Sobti, MD & CEO of IndusInd Bank, said.
The three ads show how Vaidya and Seth, who play a young married couple (Mr. & Mrs. Chowgle), respond to each other during their day-to-day conversations. Each conversation between the two is humorous and ends with a focused message about one of the services which is offered by the bank. Each situation is a metaphor to communicate the service proposition.
"This year is going to be the year of brand building for IndusInd Bank and we will witness consistent campaigns and other branding initiatives talking about product and service innovations. IndusInd Bank aims to transform into a bank for the rising Indian, imbibing the values of confidence, progression and dynamism," he said.
Mr. Sumant Kathpalia, Head-Consumer Banking, IndusInd Bank said, "The new advertising campaign focuses on our customer friendly services.All the ads, in addition to the humour, are giving the core message of IndusInd Bank’s commitment to provide a world- class banking experience."
Mr. Mohit Ganju, Head – Marketing, IndusInd Bank said, "This ad campaign is built on strong consumer insights and each of the situations depicted in the Ads are a slice of life and extremely relatable. The choice of casting and humor will definitely help us break the clutter and create some disruptive communication.
IndusInd Bank has taken up an aggressive brand-building programme since last year, when it undertook its first ever mass media campaign. Since then, it has been consistent in communication through television, radio and outdoor and print advertising.
RK Swamy BBDO, New Delhi is the creative agency for the campaign. The campaign has been conceptualised by P S Mann, Creative Director, RK Swamy and the script has been put to light by Ankur Suman, Creative Group Head of the agency.
IndusInd Bank plans to roll out the campaign in almost all the popular TV Channels of the country between March and April. The campaign is in Hinglish language and it will be released in regional languages on all the regional channels. Estimated media spends for the TV Campaign is Rs. 5 crore, the release added.We had chosen Imtiaz Ali to direct the ad films and he has done full justice to the endeavor. Omi and Shruti really got into the characters and did a great job. IndusInd Bank as a brand will get more recall and mileage from this ad campaign."
